The fact that the breweries merged in 1972 does not necessarily mean that they didn't continue to market their beers under the separate names for some years forward. Since breweries don't necessarily merge product lines and may want to maintain product recognition it is common for the old names to carry on. I believe that is the case with Spatenbräu and Fransiskaner, which were started by members of the same family
