What Stein is this?

A friend of mine got this stein for me. He thinks it may be very old. It says "Germany" on the bottom and there is a makers mark. With the photos, maybe someone can tell me something about it. It measures about 5 inches from the bottom to the rim. Marked 1/4L on top. There is another mark on the bottom barely visible which looks like ZV.
