Who Would Have Made this Gooseman Stein?

I got this wonderful stein at a thrift store. I've done a little reading on the web and have identified his character as the Gooseman of Nurnberg. I also now know that what I originally thought was some kind of factory mark is in fact, a lithophane.

He's porcelain, about 8.25" tall, and the metal seems to be pewter. Astonishingly for my local thrift, he's not chipped! The front of the pewter ring has been bent in a little.

So I'm wondering who would have made him and when, and what the lithophane is of. Here are pictures:
