Yes, but contemporary steins are the antique steins of the future. Not every collector can go out and buy a $500 stein that is out there, not to mention the real antique steins are few and far between in the U.S. - unless you fly to Germany specifically hunting for a stein, you are taking a BIG risk on shipping a $300-$500 stein here - one wrong toss of a package and there goes your investment, or an improper packing job from a person that does not realize the value of a stein to a collector in the U.S.

Just because a stein was made 100 years ago does not mean that there are not true craftmanship in steins that are made today. Popular example are those steins made by Westerwald-Team. These are beautiful steins and highly collectible, from my point of view. Contemporary steins may not be the most valuable in the collectors that frequent this site (that is your opinion, have you seen every person's collection on this site to know they are not interested in contemporary steins?), but I do not think that takes away from the artwork that are on contemporary relief steins that are considered not to be "antique". Just my point of view. I dont understand all the contemporary stein bashing that goes on in this message board. People are so quick to say "modest value" on a particular stein that may have value in 10 years from now..not once did I ever see "hang on to that stein because it may be worth something in a few years" - just something to think about.
