Hi all,
This is unrelated to the tower stein, however I have a stoneware stein which features mountain climbing equipment and has a retailers name stamped on the bottom. Does your guide book happen to mention a store by the name of "Hannes & Wieainger, Munchen" (the name is partially blurred and I am not sure of the spelling.) I've been fumbling through on-line international telephone directories without any success. I assume they are (or were) a store which sold sporting goods. The base also has the pre-1921 circular mark of Merkelbach & Wick
