Andy,

This is a scene depicting a legend about the old Germans and Romans. Search under Google under “Segest” and you will find this reference: Hans Bleymueller: Germanentrotz (1915) - [ Translate this page ]. Click on the translate to see the articles in rough English. You will have to sort through it to find the story as it is not shown in any of the titles. I gather that Segest was an old German leader that promised his daughter, Thunelda, to a Roman leader. I believe she preferred Hermann. The title on your stein is Segest’s oath of revenge. Sometimes “ae” is used to indicate an umlaut, such as ä in this case.

I don’t know who made your stein. Do you have pictures of the capacity mark and any marks on the bottom? This might help someone to identify your stein.
