I've recently used a piece of medium-light blue poster board. Rolled it up a little so it would stand up by itself. I was looking for gray, but the blue worked fine. One side of the poster board has a flatter finish and I place that side toward the camera. I photographed a few feet directly under a flourescent fixture so the light came from above. Unlike Walt, I photographed from directly horizontal, but without a flash. I don't know that there is much green tint from fluorescent lighting that will affect digital pictures. My camera has a setting for compensation, but I couldn't tell any difference with or without fluorescent compensation -- but then again, true color wasn't that important considering my subject was a monochrome stein.
