The other day we picked up, what I would call, a stein "go-with." It is a 9 1/2" tall, 8"wide two handled jar. It has a band of green leafs running around both the top and bottom, and six molded castles against a dark blue background taking up most of the exterior. The castles are identified as Marksburg, Burg Labneck, DrachenFels, Schloss StalzenFels, Godesburg, and Burg Rheinstein.

The only clear markings on the bottom are the incised numbers 1662 and 5L. There may be an additional incised mark but the strike is so weak it may just be my eyes playing tricks. I do not belive this is a brand new item as there are a lot of age cracks in the glaze on the interior. There is no lid or wear around the top to show that it ever had one.

I bought it because I thought it would be nice for pretzels but now I am curious to find out what it actualy is, and about how old it may be.

Thanks for your kind assistance. Paul
