I'm hoping "Ron" will reply. You seem to be quite the expert about steins. I was doing a search on the Net and happened across this site. My first time. I'm impressed w/ your knowledge of steins.

On a business trip to Germany many years ago, my husband was given two steins as gifts from the German business men he was visiting. One is a pretty etched glass w/ pewter lid. The other is a Marzi & Remy (I'm guessing based on what I've gleaned from my internet search). The Germans told my husband that the particular stein I'm inquiring about was valuable and would only get more valuable as it was a limited edition collectors item. I wondered if you could help me determine it's value.

It's dark blue and lighter bluish-gray ceramic stein w/ a pewter lid. All the writing is in German, of course. It is a commerative stein. The little booklet that came w/ it lists several others in the series and their deutschmark value (sorry if I've mispelled). This one was made in 1980 and is commemorating Gotz Von Berlichingen. The lid has the dates 1480 and 1980 and a fist gloved in mail. There is a relief portrait of a man, Berlichingen, I assume. One side has German writing: Craber-lag's ihm er kann mich am Arlchlecken. (signed) J. W. Goethe (I think? The words are hard to decipher if you don't know German, which I don't). The other side pictues what looks like a castle or manor house w/ the words "burg Jagsthausen" which I'm guessing is the man's house.

Some of the other steins listed in the booklet list 1971 Albrecht Durer (who I know to be an artist); 1972 Olympic Games; 1973 Nicholas Copernicus (who I know to be a scientist); 1974 Football world championship; 1975 Johann Strau(?)(that last letter looks weird). I'm guessing it's the composer; 1976 Hans Sachs (?); 1977 Dr. Eisenbarth (?); 1978 Franz Schubert (composer); 1979 Albert Einstein (scientist). It indicates all the series up to '77 are no longer available and it also give the DM value by each. Since this was given to my husband in 1981 I'm guessing it is no longer available and plus any subsequent steins until recent years. It is also in mint condition because my husband brought it home in it's box, we unwrapped it, and it's been in our curio cabinet since. There is absolutely no damage anywhere. I take it out occasionally to dust it and that's all. I'm not sure if we still have the box.

Also our booklet lists our stein as No. 11534 in the series. It has the note it is warranted by the certificate & the trademark which shows the M over R and MarziRemy.

Any information you can give me regarding this stein would be appreciated. I'm just curious. Thanks. Anyone else besides "Ron" who would like to comment, you're welsome to do so.
