Mettlach Master Stein 171 Variation?

Hello, I have what I think is a #171 3.8L master stein with a different base. The one on the catalog page has a fluted base where this one doesn't. Is this an early version or a repair? I'm new to steins so any info on the year and value would be very helpfull. Here's links to the photos:
