Hi Faith!

What you have is a regimental stein that was originally owned by a reservist that had served in the 6th Company of the 10th Wuerttemberg Infantry Regiment No. 180, from 1899 to 1901. This regiment was raised just two years before the original owner entered training with this regiment. The thing that is interesting about this stein is my belief that it was intended to be sold to someone that served in the Bavarian Army rather than in a Wuerttemberg regiment. The frieze bands are Bavarian blue rather that the typical black and red seen on Wuerttemberg steins and the thumblift is a rather unusual Bavarian shield. Why would this happen? Probably the decorator as well as the original owner didn't know the difference or possibly just didn't care. Who knows? It's just a guess on my part. As to the value, because of the confusion discussed above, plus the fact that steins name to the 180th Regiment are fairly common, and taking into consideration that the stein appears to be in nice condition, I would estimate the vale to be $250 - $300.
