Marc, Thank so much for your help. The "12" is hand stamped into the lid , and not embossed like the rest of the text, and the stein is from 1936 I don't think it is a date. Maybe the stein was one which belonged to the establishment, and it is a serial number. If you stay there you were issued a stein with a number, and when you get a beer you would tell them your number, and they would always give your stein. Thanks again for your help!! Dave
