Gary has been collecting beer steins for several years, although not diligently, and has approx. 20 of which half are known to be very old. One in particular is approx 10 & 3/4 inches tall and the entire stein is shaped like a fox in a sitting position with the entire head and neck as the lid. He is wearing a pale green cap with an orange feather. Over his shoulder he is carrying a pouch with three pheasants attached. His arms & legs are quite detailed and the grass beneath him is very dark green. The handle is cream colored and is also quite detailed. The inscription around the base of the stein reads "WAIDMANN LIEBER WAIDMANN SCHAU. DER FUCHS ALS LAGER IST AUCH SCHLAU" On the bottom of the stein in very small letters is GERMANY and in the center the stamped numer 827. If anyone has any information at all regarding the age or value of this stein, we would be very interested in hearing from you. We are not wishing to sell this piece, but garner as much information as we can so it will be valued by whomever inherits it from us one day. We believe it to be quite unique as we have never seen another one like it. I wish I could send a picture. Thanks so very much for any help we may receive with this request.
