Hello Josef!

You live in a very historic part of Germany. My wife and I have especially enjoyed our visits to Burg Hohenzollern several times over the years. Regarding your reservistenkrug, as you probably already know the complete name of the regiment was Fuesilier-Regiment Fuerst Karl Anton von Hohenzollern (Hohenzollernsches) Nr. 40 The regiment was raised 26th January 1818 as the 36.Infanterie-Regiment (4.Reserve-Regiment). It became the 40. Infanterie-Regiment (4. Reserve-Regiment) on 12 February 1820, then simply the 40. Infanterie-Regiment on 10th June 1860. Soon thereafter, on 4th July 1860, the name was again changed to Hohenzollernsches Fuesilier-Regiment (Nr.40). The following year, on 7th May 1861, it became Hohenzollernsches Fuesilier-Regiment Nr. 40. The final name change was 29th January 1889 when this regiment became the Fuesilier-Regiment Fuerst Karl Anton von Hohenzollern (Hohenzollernsches) Nr. 40.

At the time of your reservistenkrug the regiment's chef was Infantrie-General Fuerst Hilhelm v. Hohenzollern.

This regiment was at the Battle of Koeniggraetz where the Germans defeated the Austrian's - see page 7 in my book, which you said you have. The 40th Fuesiliers also fought the French in the Franco-Prussian War of870-1871 at Saabruecken, St. Arnual, Spichern, Mars-la-Tour, Gravolette-St. Privat, Amiens,Bapaume and St. Quentin - all very important battles in that war.

You have a very fine reservistenkrug and since it was owned in your family, I am sure it occupies and important place in your home. Good luck!
