Paul — Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but your stein never saw a potters wheel. The roughness on the bottom is simply an indication of a low quality casting, which is also reflected in the poor relief definition. The painting is about equal in quality to the casting. My guess is that it's someone's introductory ceramics class project.
