Tony — As you know, my German language skills are far from those of a native speaker, but I believe the saying on your stein translates to something like "Oh indeed, a barrel is dear to me! A fresh stein of beer – nothing is better." By way of partial explanation, a "Mass" (German nouns are always capitalized) is a liter mug similar to those that are often seen bearing the "HB" insignia. There is no direct English equivalent, so I've translated it as "stein of beer".

Regarding your second question, etched and PUG scenes on the same stein are somewhat unusual, but hardly unheard of. One of the most well known (because of its connection the Anheuser-Busch) is Mettlach stein #2136, which has a PUG depiction of August Busch on the front and two etched side scenes.
