The more that a replacement lid varies from what was there originally, the less value will be added by attaching it to your stein. As I indicated previously, the right replacement lid would make a major difference in the selling price. The further a replacement varies from what is appropriate to the stein, the less difference it will make in the secondary market value. The fact is that most Mettlach collectors want their steins to be as close to "mint" as possible and would have little interest in forking over the big bucks for a stein with an obviously inappropriate lid.
