Greetings to all, once again. eBay item 6102575902 is the subject. The seller's descriptive title is somewhat erroneous. It is a 1 liter capacity stein, however, the background is etched, deep lines, but the figures, including the dog, his plate and the guns are in relief. The top and bottom bands are a motley brown colour with high glaze. It has a 1" recessed bottom. I believe it may be a JWR...I think. My previous posting has attracted two replies at this point, both very informative. I've been made aware that copies of scenes or portraits from great artists were "borrowed" in order to decorate steins. I do not know if in this case the caracters have been "borrowed" from a work of art, however I do know that they appear in the Steinzeugwerke catalogue, The Beer Stein Library. The numbers are 1665, 1851, 1946, the first two are etched, including the figures, the last is in relief, including the background. The backgrounds are different also. On those three steins, the figures are also "flopped", as in taking a negative film containing a group of people, flipping the neg and seeing the caracters in opposite sides. Can anyone explain the process involved to achieve this result? Thanks for your time and, hopefully valid replies. Regards, Tony B
