The stein was made sold between 1912 and 1921 by the Steinzeugwerke marketing consortium. The name "Elk" was applied to the piece in a Steinzeugwerke catalog from that period. In all likelihood, the actual manufacturer was Reinhold Hanke. The words on the bottom are nothing more than a German copyright statement. It has a current market value of around $100+. If possible, I'd appreciate it if you'd send me (fjl@beerstein.net) a front view photo of the stein that could be used to replace the black & white picture that is currently being used in the Beer Stein Library.
