John and Marc, I figured I would start a new thread as the original is buried a bit too far below, and I haven't been able to reply until now. Thanks for your replies. Again these comments/?'s are on Ebay #6106001232. John, I wonder why this bottom mark looks like it may be an owners mark to you? I have never seen owner's initials other than on the lid, center or edge, and on the body. I would guess that all owner's initials would be displayable and seen and not hidden. Is it because of the center location or script that you suggest this? Marc, I'd be a monkey's uncle (whatever that is) if it was a repro. That would kill me if I ever made that mistake. About 6 years ago, in my infancy, I bid almost $400 on a perfect faience stein on ebay, marked 'Crailsheim'. Reserve not met. I got in touch with this Walt fellow asking about its authenticity (Walt, you may not remember this) who got in touch with this Jody fellow. So many emails went back and forth, an artical could have been written. The conclusion was that it was a reproduction which I never knew existed on faience steins. "Too perfect, pewter not right". I got an email from the seller wanting to sell it to me for the reserve of $450. (If it was real, it might have been worth in the ballpark of 10 times that.) Thank you Walt and Jody for saving me from being stupid. Now it's easy for me to spot a repro. Eric
