I got a stein in an antique shop; the body is beautiful with a gilded and colorful relief pattern all around the body, and a handpainted, possibly Defregger scene on the front. The lid is ornate pewter, unfortunately with a small tear and bent thumblift. I'm sure this can be fixed eventually, but meanwhile dirt is caked in all the crevices. How should I clean this, without ruining the patina? I do not want a shiny new pewter look.
