suspected pewter repair

I recently bought a Mettlach #2394, mint body but a questionable thumblift. The underside of the lift has a gold haze as though it was heated. A crease or joint at the base of the lift has a shinyness as though it was soldred. I'm a prosthodontist who has done considerable casting and soldering of dental alloys which makes me suspect that this has been repaired. The thumb lift in general is slightly off center and distorted, not consistent with Mettlach quality regardless of it being a century old handcrafted piece of art. Who would be best qualified to verify my suspicions and do a better repair if the seller doesn't take it back? I paid generously and was told it was not repaired.(saw only on a photo}
