The clay used to produce these grey stoneware bodies came only from what we call the Westerwald. If you draw a line on a map between Frankfurt and Dusseldorf, the area between the line and the Rhine River is roughly the Westerwald. There were two Bavarian factories that produced grey bodies between 1874 and 1886, too late for your piece, one in Regensburg and one in Freising, but they imported their raw materials from the Westerwald.
