Marc — It's interesting to note that the date on the dedication predates founding of the Thewalt factory in 1893. That being the case, one can only conclude that either the lid is a replacement (unlikely) or that the inscription was engraved well after the fact. Perhaps it was a wedding anniversary. - fjl
