I'm receiving a few steins from my father's estate. My great grandfather owned the taxi (horse drawn) business for the town of Essen in the Early 1900's. Here is one stein that I would like to know about, its value, and it's rarity. Description: From what I remember.... Lid was pewter and original.. had the words.. Munchener Burgerbrau....with what looks like twin tower buildings on the lid. Size was .4 liters. Stoneware...kind of soft ivory, with the words..." Burgerliches Brauhaus Munchen" had some handwritten scrip at the base, and a date of 1903, or 1905. the Major print of the Burgerliches and the date was kind of in a Gothic style script.. The base with the script was hand written..don't remember what it said... Looked like a glaze over the this writing. No cracks, no repairs.. Botton had some marks but the stamps are not deep inset, or off as to pressure on one side of stamp. From what I could make out, I think it read Merkelbach & Wick...Greznhausen...I don't remember if it had the actual trade mark of the pottery. But it had a very small little symbol the size of an 1/8 th of an inch that looked like the top of a rook in chess, with the flat tower and insets for the guards..just like three right side up boxes, missing the bottom line and then inverted twice in between...very small. It's shape is like the typical 1/2 liter stoneware steins used in many beer halls. Any help would be appreciated. I was told that this was fron the Beer Hall Hitler made many speeches from, and announcements, which was destroyed in the war...
