I own a beer stein that was bought for my grandfather between 1965 and 1969 in Germany. I am looking for some information about it as my searches have not brought up anything. The mark on the bottom has been incised and from what I can find out this dates it from 1900 to the time when Gerz was taken over by Domex. ( It is a triangle with a lamp/stein in middle with the words - Made in Germany, and seit 1862, around the outside.)
I think it is stoneware, with a pewter lid and there is a number in the lid which I think might be 6164 or 6764.
I believe it is a relief stein depicting, 3 men smoking pipes and one woman, sitting round a table drinking. The handle has been engraved to look like wood and the setting looks like it is in an orchard. It also has the words "Der trunk dein klar, dein leib sei rar" (When your drink is finished, your life is over)?? Underneath the handle.
The top of the stein an the bottom ring are both glazed blue, but the actual body of the stein and the relief are brown.
Would anybody be able to help me?
