This difficulty is partially explained by realizing that Kirsner made a mistake in "The Beer Stein Book". The mosaic stein he illustrates on page 239 (b) is actually model number 1188 (I have one in my hand at the moment, and he shows the same stein in "The Mettlach Book" as model 1188).
A second contributing factor to this confusion is that Kirsner lists form 1130 in "The Mettlach Book" in the section for steins - because, despite his description as "Munich Guard beaker" - it really is a stein, as can be seen on page 65!
