Depending upon the type of pottery you want to know about, Speicher's ceramic history can go back thousands of years. Some forms were well known in the Roman period. However, the beautiful grey and blue pottery apparently dates back to the 1750s, when Westerwald potters came to the Eifel. Very little has been written about this pottery, as you discovered, but I do know that the Plein family is still active in Speicher, at least one branch of them working at the Plewa factory, a successful family-owned pottery business in downtown Speicher. The eifelkeramik.de website that you saw tells the story of Jacob Plein, who was the first known Master Potter. I am currently doing research on Eifel potters, so as I find out more, I'll let you know.
