Any book can only list the estimated price at the time it was written. And it doesn't take into consideration the variables involved in evaluating the artistic skills that may be apparent between two copies of the same stein. It can, therefore, only be viewed as a general guide. Frank makes an effort to update the prices in The Beer Stein Library based on current conditions, but there is no way to keep it fully up to date. The Auction Catalogs issued by Gary Kirsner and Andre Ammelounx are also sources that give a current price reference.
Keep in mind that even if the prices given seem inaccurate: (1) the prices on ebay don't include either shipping or insurance and there is also the factor of not knowing how accurate the description was. These would keep the auction price lower than a cash and carry price; and (2) the final price realized in the auction catalogs includes the buyers premium, but doesn't include shipping and insurance either, however the descriptions are generally more reliable than on ebay.
