The 1526 is a stock item that V&B sold as a blank to many finishing shops, who then decorated and applied the pewter. these steins often didn't have either the Mercury or Abby mark. While the stein isn't marked at all, this lid was used by the shop of Friedrich van Hauten. It was probably van Hauten who decorated this piece. The rest of the marks a Mettlach factory marks, the "96" being the year the stein was manufactured. It has no Mettlach decoration number because it wasn't decorated by Mettlach.
