If it was made between 1949 and 1989 it must be marked either "Made in West Germany" or "Made in W. Germany". Before 1949 and after 1989 it would not be marked for West Germany. After 1921 it would no longer be marked simply "Germany," but could be marked Made in Germany any time after 1887. If the hinge on this stein is open, meaning the hinge pin is visible, with five rings, it was probably made after 1895 and if it is open and has three rings it was probably made between 1887 and 1895. Actually the three ring, open hinge was used between 1875 and 1895 but because yours says "Made in Germany it would have had to have been made after 1887. I hope that explains it.
