Below-left is the photo of the mark which prompted this question. To the right of that image are photos of the base marks from four steins from my own collection (all are circa 1910). These steins can be found in the Marzi & Remy catalogs, confirming their origin and trademark.
It's interesting to note that even among the four marks to the right there are variations. (And there are other variations seen in Les Hopper's compilation of marks, as well as in "The Beer Stein Book".) Noting that these marks are an unusual design to begin with, and that there is no obvious reason for someone to try to design a trademark which would be confused with Marzi & Remy, I am inclined to believe they are all Marzi & Remy.

Some of the variations in Hopper and Kirsner are quite likely the result of observing a partially impressed mark. Other variations may arise when the marks are drawn, rather than photographed.

Hopper shows seven "different" marks for this firm. I don't recall ever seeing mark #2 (the one with MuR inside the box), or a mark which is so "un-square" as mark #3, or any occurrence of mark #4 (the one which looks like a scale). Have any of you?
