Hi Shannon,

I'll leave identifying the stein to someone more knowledgable about various manufacturers' characteristics. However, I think I can help with the translation.

One side of the handle appears to have the text: "Wie die Raupe vom Schmetterling, stammt vom Affen der Kater." (As a caterpiller comes from the butterfly, so does the tomcat (hangover) come from the monkey (drunkedness). Both the cat and the monkey have alternate meanings in German symbolism.

The other side of the handle says: "Wer das Soehnchen vermeiden will, huete sich vor dem Vater." (Whoever wants to avoid the son, beware of the father.) I assume that implies that to avoid the hangover, avoid the heavy drinking.

Both of these translations were taken from "1001 German Beer Stein Translations" which is reached via a link in the "Library" section of this website.
