My first post here, so bear with me. I recently bought an nice example of an Art Nouveau stoneware stein on Ebay. You can stop smirking now, I know the pros and cons of buying on Ebay. You can view the listing #6127884336 on Ebay faster than I can send pics. I thought I paid a good price until I unwrapped it. What the listing pics don't show is a severly chipped base (chips all the way around and the pewter ring on the lid is bent so as to prevent good closure. The inlay is fine however, so the lid is repairable. The base was so bad I wondered whether there was originally a footring and base beneath what you see now. I emailed the seller about return/refund. He is willing to do so but said he had the stein appraised in its present condition at $150-175. I think it is similar to steins in Kirshner (3rd Ed., p.189) that in EXCELLENT condition would be valued at $100-150. This one is not in excellent condition! My question is whether this stein is rare enough, to keep in my collection, even though it is damaged? In other words, did I get good value for my money?
