I'm assuming that by "rope ring" you're referring to the beading around the bases of most, but not all, of the examples shown in the catalog. Note the photo labeled "Steins Marked Lichtenger", where two of the three steins shown are unbeaded. Minor variations of this sort, particularly base variations, can be found throughout the Library. Presumably, such changes were either seen as design enhancements or made to eliminate a production difficulty and/or cost. - fjl
