Hi All!

I have a salt glazed stein/mug with an elaborate incised blue pattern, made from heavy light gray stoneware.

It's stamped on the bottom with the Gerz mark shown on the left in this article as being 'From ~1900'

http://www.steincollectors.org/library/articles/marks/marks.htm

It's definitely the mark with the stein incised and not the other way around, as it appears there is also a Gerz mark with the triangle incised that was used more recently.

Should I take this mark to mean that this piece was manufactured around 1900, or that the mark has been in use since 1900 and the piece could have been made anytime between then and now?

The reason I ask, is that some of the Merkelbach marks on the same page indicate 'From ~ 1909' but those marks don't seem to be used in modern pieces. However the piece I have seems to be so bright and solid that it doesn't seem it could be more than 40-50 years old so I question that it could have been made in 1900, although it is very durably made.

Thanks Very Much!
