Hi Gies, I believe John S. is right to think the Apostle stein is turn of the century perhaps even a few years earlier. Before 1895 anyway. The other piece is a so called "Regensburg" stein depicting the "Wedding at Canaan" from the New Testament. The lid is not original. It was the practice in Germany to contribute pewter lids, etc. at time of war and either replace it with a cheap metal lid or if the stein was a treasured piece to replace the pewter after there was no longer a national need fot it. This type of lid was used on new steins after the First World War 1919-1924 because Germany was not allowed to import tin which was considered a strategic material at the time.
