Art,

I don't have any problem with the listing. The buyer says it was made by Kaiser, a contemporary stein maker, and that it was made in W. Germany. The seller may not know English, but it is considerably better than my German. And he does say correctly that it is an original Kaiser porcelain, and is not saying that it is an original regimental. He is also upfront with buyer's questions and answers. He fully agrees that it is a reproduction. While AK is an old firm, it only began stein production after WWII and did not get into regimentals until the mid-1950s. Stein production was stopped in 1989. I will agree with him that it is a better quality than the reproductions you normally see, but I still wouldn't value it that high. I'll leave those values to AK collectors to determine. If you look a the early high bidder's previous purchases, I think you will agree that the bidder needs protection from himself, not from the seller.

If you want to see a misleading description, check this one out: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6145229798. I notified the seller and referred him to our reproduction article. Obviously, he knows what he is doing. Fortunately he is not getting any bids.

We will be featuring a reproduction regimental in April for the Stein of the Month. If you have any suggestions or examples of the more confusing reproductions, send them into the web site for forwarding to me.

Prosit,

Ron
