I think your stein is by J.W. Remy and the mark is a scratched in initial of one of the workers. I believe this is a quality control mark of some kind. This type of handle was used by Girmscheid, J.W. Remy, Hanke, Marzi-Remy and is also found on steins marked "TP". There are however, subtle differences in each factory's handles.
