Hi Donald, Walt is correct when he states the technology became available in the 1865-1870 period, but it took as much a ten years for it to spread throughout the various German states. If your open hinges have three rings then 1870-1890 is a solid guesstimate. If the hinge has five rings then post 1890 is what you are looking at. Also if the glass is early, the handle will be solidly attached at the top and then just pressed to the body at the bottom with the end of the handle folded back on itself. The inside of the handle will be flat and the outside rounded. If the handle attacments are larger at the bottom and smaller at the top, then again you are looking at post 1890.
