I too have a stein with this name on it. At the bottom of the stein it says 1581. I'm not sure that mine is porcelein, but maybe terra cotta. I've been researching this person as well, with no luck. My stein was made in Germany if that helps. The EK could be a title and the crosses and churches indicate a Holy knight. Good luck with your research. As you, I am afraid to let go of this piece until I'm sure what I have.
