If you were a Beer Stein Library member you'd already know that the "GK" initials are not exclusive to Girmscheid, but have also been found on the products of several other Westerwald steinmakers, including Rosskopf & Gerz.
The real question here is whether or not R&G was actually a "manufacturer" of stoneware, or served simply as a finishing shop for pieces made elsewhere (in this case Grimscheid). Although I haven't made any serious attempt to answer the question definitively, evidence currently on hand strongly favors the finishing shop theory.
I guess now that I've raised the issue, I'll have to go find the answer. Stay tuned. - fjl
