Mettlach Tell stein on ebay - WARNING

Hi everybody,

I feel obliged to warn you of the Mettlach Tell stein that is currently listed on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=34652&item=6156829296&rd=1

The seller mentions that the area near the handle shows "traces of a restauration, not visible on the inside". Incredible. This stein had been listed before by the same seller, and I was the buyer:

http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6146895871

With his first try, the seller even claimed that the stein was in a "perfect condition, no chips, no cracks, no restauration" (see below the picture, as an answer to a question). Now the truth about this piece:

- there are several cracks at the back (ca. 8-10), filled with ugly, brown glue. It looks horrible.

- the handle had been reattached with the same brown glue

- the interior indeed shows no lines, but only because it had been painted(!) with white color to hide them.

It appears that the whole back plus the handle once broke off and then had been "repaired" by someone who had no idea how to do this properly.

I just noticed that I forgot to give him a negative feedback. I think this is the right time now.

Best regards

Marc
