Hi Jason, the stein is NOT porcelain it is what is called steingut and it isn't a true stoneware and required a glaze so that it would hold liquids. It was made by Ernst Dorfner & Company, hence the ED&C and it was made in Hirschau which I believe is near Stutgart, ca.1900. The Dorfner co. is still in business today making inustrial ceramics I believe.
