John, you are most fortunate to have such a nice Train Bataillon regimental beer stein. Yes, train units were typically relatively small units. The Train Bataillon Nr. 18 stein shown in my book on page 217 also has 24 traingemeiner (soldiers) but no one year volunteers. One year volunteers in a train unit I believe is unusual. The side scenes showing feeding the horses and a field ambulance are uncommon, as I've seen them a only few times before. I hope this helps you.
