The line on the Mettlach indicates the 1/2 liter mark. It is a factory mark, and it looks like it has been lightened with rubbing.
You got a good deal on the first one. Probably worth $100-$150. A drop of glue might fix the lid.
I'm not an expert on Regimentals, but my guess is that it's real. I haven't seen any fakes with the jewel, and the print fits properly on the body of the stein. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
