Pjm, The mark you describe on the bottom sounds like a purity mark for the pewter. The absence of lead was normally shown with a touchmark of an anglel with either a sword and balance or a palm frond and trumpet. Your stein was perhaps from circa 1900 and may contain the maker's touchmark. If you can find and identify the touchmark, you may be able to get a better age and area for when and where the stein was made. The carving on the lid and the handle are from an antler. Ron
