Well, no one else has answered, and to tell the truth I believe most of the expertise here is with German and American steins. But I will tell you my best guess and perhaps you can research from there. I think it is Black Smoked Ukrainian pottery from Havarechyna, a village in the Lviv region. I say this for two reasons. A few years ago I saw a display of modern Ukrainian beer steins, and they were decorated with the same classic Greek themes. At least I call them Greek, they said they were Ukrainian. And from a site on the web I see that Ukraine has the type of pottery mentioned, which looks a lot like the color in your photos. I could be completely wrong, let's see if someone seconds or corrects me.
