Stewart, this is a topic that I am sure will draw a bit of scrutiny, from both fact and opinion as well. It seems that a Pass Cup is a drinking vessel with at least 2 handles, but can have as many as 4. The term Loving Cup describes a drinking vessel that usually has 2 handles but can have more. There is another term, Grace Cup that describes a traditional drinking vessel that is passed around the dinner table after 'Grace' has been spoken in some gatherings, typically having 2 handles, but can have more. All of these terms for multy-handled drinking vessels have a religious history, and I will leave it at that. You probably are familiar with the 2 handled Loving Cup given as a trophy for many competitions. They are sometimes used in celebrations such as weddings, etc. I was told many years ago that if it has 2 handles, it's a Loving Cup and if it has 3 handles, it's a Pass Cup (or Passing Cup). I have since learned that that is not always the case. David
