I started collecting Mettlach Steins in the Early 1980s on a tip from a antique dealer/friend. He said they were 1) scarce 2) valuable 3) tough to reproduce 4) a good investment. I took his advice and while I do enjoy them and purchase them occasionally I am surprised that I can buy most of them for considerably less than I paid in the 1980s. Collecting trends and the economy are definately a factor but does anyone expect a turn around??
